Katherine Romo

Katherine "Kathy" Jean Romo, 76, of Pine Island, Minn., died March 2, 2025 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems - St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in Minneapolis, Minn. in 1948 to Howard and Sara "Mickey" Kalgren. She spent many of her growing-up years in the Minneapolis area, until the family moved to Rochester in 1963. Kathy graduated from Lourdes High School in 1966.

Shortly after graduation, Kathy married Jeff Brown and they had 3 children, Jean, Micky, and Charlie. The couple later divorced. Kathy married Dean Romo in 2001 and she happily expanded her family to include Dean's children, Peter and Angie.

Kathy enjoyed and later retired from a 25+ year career at Mayo Clinic.

Kathy was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. They were her greatest joys in life. Kathy also loved sewing, quilting, cooking, crafting, and playing bingo. She and Dean also enjoyed traveling, especially their most recent trip to Alaska.

Kathy is lovingly survived by her husband, Dean; children, Jean (Erik) Olson, Micky (John) Brogan, and Charlie (Jessica) Brown; bonus-children, Peter (Christi) Romo and Angie (Bill) Radke; grandchildren, Jeff (Kelly) Mattison, Courtney (Dana) Olsom, Curtis (Jena) Olson, Jazzmine Brown, Katie, Magen, and Zach Radke, Brianna and Ryan Romo, Brianna, Ethan, and Maggie Brown; great-grandchildren, Sophia Smith, Evelyn and Theodore Olson, and August Olsom; siblings, John (Carolyn) Kalgren, Margaret Harristhal, Terri (Steve) Wilde, Steve (Shari) Kalgren, Mary (Terry) Engle, and Ann (James) Peery.

She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Land's Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Rev. David Kinke officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at church.
