ZUMBROTA - Katherine (Kay) P. Koester, age 89 of Zumbrota died October 20, 2009 at the Zumbrota Health Services facility where she had resided for the past year.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Pastor Wayne Schoch will be officiating. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The remains were cremated.
Katherine Pauline Koester was born August 10, 1920 in Lake City, Minnesota to William C. and Marie Anna (Holst) Schulenberg. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1938. She married Arnold P. Koester on May 18, 1940 in Northwoods, Iowa in a double wedding ceremony with Kermit and Hazel Olson. They resided in Red Wing, Lake City and moved to Zumbrota in 1952 where Arnold opened his own sheet metal business. Kay worked at the Zumbrota Hospital for a number of years. She enjoyed working in her yard and maintaining a beautiful home. Kay was a member of the Christ Lutheran Ladies Aid.
Kay is survived by daughter Barbara Budensiek of Zumbrota, two grandsons Michael (Patti) Budensiek of Zumbrota and Keith (Robyn) Budensiek of Farmington, five great-grandchildren, Riley, Taylor, Connor, Jordyn and Lexie, sister-in-law, Renata Schulenberg, nephews, Dr. Robert (Nancy) Schulenberg and Richard Schulenberg and niece, Delma (Roger) Deden all of Red Wing. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother, Chester Schulenberg.
A private burial will be held at the Zumbrota Cemetery at a later date.
