Katherine "Kay" Edstrom age 84 of Pine Island died on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at her home in Pine Island. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, February 1, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Pine Island with Father Timothy Dolan officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, January 31, 2010 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Monday one hour prior to the mass at the church.
Katherine "Kay" Margaret Horvath was born on January 7, 1926, in Elmer, MN to John and Franzisha Horvath. She grew up in rural Elmer, graduated from Toivola High School in 1943, and moved to Chicago to work for Eastman Kodak Company. On June 10, 1950 she married Kenneth E. Edstrom in Elmer. They made their home in Chicago, then Cincinnati, followed by Rochester and in 1963 moved to Pine Island. Kay was a dedicated wife, mother, homemaker and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, crossword puzzles, watching and rooting for the MN Vikings and Twins. Kay is survived by her husband Ken, her children, Ken (Marty) Edstrom of Springfield, MO, Bob (Melissa Quinn) Edstrom of Cambridge, MN, Donna (Mark) Hanson of Rochester and Sandy (Scott) McMillan of Edina; seven grandchildren, Ann Marie (Chad) Herman, Tom (Kristy) Edstrom, Michael Edstrom, Kate Edstrom, James Edstrom, Rob McMillan and Matt McMillan; five great grandchildren, Mason & Kinslea Edstrom, Jadyn & Taylor Edstrom, and Hayley Herman. She was preceded in death by her parents; four grandchildren, Jodie Lynn Edstrom, Stephen Bradley Edstrom, Lauryn Marie Edstrom, John Robert Edstrom; daughter-in-law, Deb (Owen) Edstrom; five brothers and four sisters. Memorials are suggested to St. Michael's Catholic Church.
