Katherine I. Baker

May 6, 1924 — June 26, 2012

Katherine I. Baker age 88 of Pine Island died on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. The funeral service will be on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Rev. John Torris Lohre and Rev. Kip Groettum officiating. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Katherine Ida Burdick was born on May 6, 1924 in New Haven Township, Olmsted County, MN to Asa and Emily (nee Rodrick) Burdick. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. On April 17, 1942 she married Donald O. Baker in Rochester. While Don served in the Army Air Corps during WWII they lived in North Carolina and New York. When Don was sent overseas Katherine returned to the Pine Island area. After his honorable discharge they farmed south of Pine Island. Katherine worked as a waitress at Hank Peterson's Bus Stop and for a short time at Waters-Connelly. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, knitting, crocheting and cooking. Katherine was a member and past president of Swanson-Owens VFW Post #9647 Auxiliary in Oronoco. She was also a member of Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 Auxiliary in Pine Island and Saint Paul Lutheran Church.
Katherine is survived by her husband, Donald; daughters, Betsy Carney of Pine Island and Mary (David) Stoddard of Dodge Center; grandchildren, Christopher & David Carney, JoLeen (Arick) Hammon and Jennifer (Jeremy) Posey; great-grandchildren, Caileen, Tane, Becky (Braden), Jessie, Andrea, Thomas, Brandon, Benjamin, Jade and Mariah; three great-great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Veek of Red Wing and brother, Ed (Ann) Burdick of Moorefield, WV.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Asa and Emily and brothers, William and Robert Burdick.
