Katharine Mary "Kay" Vogel 93, of Red Wing, died Friday, December 2, 2016, surrounded by her family, at her home. She was born on January 9, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Frank and Martha (Tafel) Boyle. She graduated from Hallahan High School in Philadelphia. For a few years she worked for her father at his paint store. On June 15, 1946 she married Eugene "Bud" Vogel at St. Matthew's Parish in Philadelphia. They lived in Arcadia, Wis., Red Wing and Winona over the years and wintered in Puerto Rico. Since 2010, they have resided in Red Wing. Eugene died on July 29, 2011. She was a member of the Church of St. Joseph where she and Eugene were part of the ABCD Club and she also volunteered at St. Joseph's School. She also was a Brownie leader. She enjoyed playing games, especially scrabble. She was a wonderful example to her family and friends with her love and kindness.
Survivors include nine children, Richard (Kathy) Vogel of Mason, Mich., Charles (Nita) Vogel of Palm Coast, Fla., Barbara (Ronald) Scott of Red Wing, Jean (David) Christopherson of Red Wing, Katharine (Ricky) Johnson of Lund, Wis., Marc (Ann) Vogel of Red Wing, Anne (Scott) Parsons of Red Wing, Lee (Ole) Olson of Ellsworth and Jan Vogel of Red Wing; 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Bradley of Aurora, Colo., and Mary Barbara Boyle of Atlantic City, New Jersey and one brother, Dick (Carol) Boyle of St. Augustine, Fla. along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene; one brother, Frank and one sister, Martha; one great grandson, Logan Hinrichs and one son-in-law, Doug Hanson.
Mass of Resurrection will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2016, at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Arcadia, Wisconsin. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to the Church of St. Joseph or donor's choice.
