Karyl D. "Curly" Kennedy, 83, of Pine Island, died Thursday, February 1, 2007 at the Dodge Center Care Center after a lengthy illness. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Pine Island with the Reverend Greg Strunk officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Island Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Karyl Duane Kennedy was born on July 31, 1923 in Milton Township, Dodge County to John and Wilma (Durst) Kennedy. He was raised in Milton Township and graduated from Pine Island High School in 1941. Karyl served in the Merchant Marines. He played semi-professional baseball as a pitcher for Rochester and for the American Legion Leagues in Pine Island from the late 1930's into the early 1940's. On November 11, 1943 he married Barbara Miller in Rochester. Karyl operated a dairy farm in Milton Township and was a DHIA Member from 1961-2005, and a member of the Holstein Association. He took pride in farming and raising cattle. Karyl served on the Milton Township Board for many years. Karyl is survived by his wife, Barbara of Pine Island; two sons, Michael Kennedy and Mark (Karen) Kennedy, both of Pine Island; four grandchildren, Lisa (Ryan) Foley of Sparta, WI, Sarah (Adam) Hovden of Byron, Lacey Kennedy and John Kennedy, both of Pine Island and two great grandchildren, Isabelle and Ian Foley of Sparta. He was preceded in death by his parents and best friends, Dan Jewell, Sr. and Steve Kispert. Arrangements are with Mahn Family Funeral Home-Mahler Chapel, Pine Island.
