Karna LaVonne Johnson, 81, of Red Wing, died Sunday, May 18, at the Red Wing Health Center. She was born December 2, 1926 in Zumbrota, to John and Edna (Banitt) Diercks. She graduated from high school in Goodhue and attended St. John's School of Nursing in Red Wing. She worked for the City Hospital, St. John's Hospital and the Red Wing Health Center as a registered nurse for 34 years. She was married to Raymond Johnson on September 5, 1947 in Goodhue, and they lived in Red Wing. He died on September 30, 2005. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Auxiliaries of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54 and the Burnson Lillyblad VFW #1218 and was a Pocahontas and had been a past Great-Pocahontas of the Midwest area Nokomis Council #27. She was also a Boy and Girl Scout Leader, had served as an election judge and was a regular blood donor. She enjoyed playing cards, knitting, and doing word and jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by eight children, Raymond Jr. (Diana) Johnson of Stillwater, Janet (Bill) Auchampach of Red Wing, Jean (John) Furney of Hastings, Karen (Jim) Malone of Wabasha, Norma Haynes of Spooner, Wisc., Patricia (Terry) Hanson of Red Wing, Jim Johnson of Red Wing and Arlene (Ron) Woodland of Red Wing; 21 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Diane Anderson, sister, Gwyneth Smith, grandson, Garrett Lightfoot and great-granddaughter, Angel Auchampach.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Anthony Auchampach, Sean Scoville, Matt Haynes, Andy Church, Tim Johnson and Phillip Auchampach. Honorary pallbearers will be Karna's other grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the church.
