Karl H. Scheffler, age 85 of Zumbrota died peacefully on January 31, 2009 at St. Brigid's at Hi Park Nursing Home in Red Wing where he spent the last four years. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Erich Westphal officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2009 from 5:00 � 8:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home- Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Karl Henry Scheffler was born on May 22, 1923 at Poplar Grove, Pine Island Township, Goodhue County, MN to Henry E. and Amalia L. (nee Hendel) Scheffler. Karl's family moved to the Zumbrota area, where in 1942 he graduated from Zumbrota High School. On February 13, 1945 he entered the U.S. Army. He served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II and was honorably discharged on December 10, 1946. He returned to the Zumbrota area and on October 1, 1949 he married Anna "Jane" Schafer at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue. They farmed in Minneola Township for many years, until fully retiring in 1994. Karl was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was also a member of the Farm Bureau, DHIA, AAL and the Stary-Yerka VFW Post #5727 in Zumbrota. Karl also sold Funk's Seed corn for twenty seven years, had a passion for Belgium Draft Horses and enjoyed fishing.
Karl is survived by his wife, Jane; two sons, Daniel (Susan) Scheffler and Roger (Nikky) Scheffler, both of Zumbrota, one daughter, Elaine (Paul) Burfeind of Lake City; five grandchildren, Tony (Maizie) Scheffler, Jason (Tracy) Scheffler, Dustin Scheffler, Mitchell Burfeind and Lisa (Trevor) Dicke; two step grandchildren, Chad and Brooke Swenson; five great grandchildren; one brother, Erwin Scheffler of Cannon Falls and one sister, Dorothy Kvam of Zumbrota. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Casketbearers are Tony Scheffler, Jason Scheffler, Dustin Scheffler, Mitchell Burfeind, Chad Swenson and Trevor Dicke. Honorary bearers are Lisa Dicke, Brooke Swenson, Maizie Scheffler and Tracy Scheffler.
