PINE ISLAND � A memorial service for Karl D. Glabe will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Oronoco with Rev. Janet Shannon officiating. The body was cremated. Burial will be in Oronoco Cemetery.
Mr. Glabe, 94, of Pine Island, died Tuesday (July 10, 2007) at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Born Oct. 13, 1912 on the family farm in Oronoco Township, Olmsted County to Herman J. and Florence m. (Stedman) Glabe, he graduated from Pine Island High School in 1931. He then attended the University Of Minnesota School Of Agriculture. He returned to the family farm. On Oct. 8, 1943 he married Ruth H. Pike in Rochester. The couple farmed and he was a salesman for Pioneer Seed Co. They moved to Pine Island in Oct. 2006. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Oronoco where he held many offices and received his 50-year pin for teaching Sunday school. He was a member of the Pine Island School Board for 10 years, the Rochester Masonic Lodge, and the Osman Shrine. He enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Annette Glabe of Grass Valley, CA; Marilyn (Ron) Monson of Rochester, MN; and Jane (Ed) Shanks of Buffalo, MN; a son Leland (Lori) of Oronoco; granddaughters, Claire Shanks, Brittiny and Chelsie Glabe; and grandsons, Ben Shanks, and Cody Glabe. His parents, two brothers, and one granddaughter preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home � Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and one hour before the service at the church.
