Red Wing

Karen Sue Johnson, 72, of Red Wing, died Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Regina Care Center in Hastings, after a year and a half battle with cancer. She was born August 25, 1952, in Red Wing, to Russell and Sylvia (Stumpf) Madsen. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1970. She was united in marriage to Dale Johnson on June 1, 1974 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Red Wing. She worked for the Red Wing Shoe Company for several years before starting her own house cleaning service. In 2000 she went to work for Treasure Island, retiring from the security department in 2014. Karen and Dale enjoyed traveling and taking trips on the motorcycle and camping. She also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and playing the casino games, reading, watching her soap operas and gameshows and tending to her garden. She was quite fond of animals, especially her Chihuahua, CoCo.

She is survived by her husband, Dale of 50 years; her son, Brian D. Johnson of Red Wing; grandson, Noah Muhlhausen of Chicago; sister, Lana Horn of Red Wing; brothers-in-law, Dean Johnson of Red Wing and Ricky (Kate) Johnson of Lund, WI; mother-in-law, Delores Geiger of Red Wing and her dog, CoCo. She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law and brother-in-law, Larry Horn.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2024 at Mahn Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior service. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
