ROCHESTER A memorial service for Karen A. Olson will be 11 a.m. Friday at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Wuehler officiating.

Mrs. Olson, 57, of Rochester, died Sunday (July 6, 2008) of breast cancer at her home.

Karen A. Garding was born Nov. 17, 1950 in Minneapolis, grew up in Bloomington, MN and graduated from Lincoln High School there in 1968. She then attended Normandale Junior College. On June 23, 1973 she married David L. Olson in Bloomington. The couple lived in Mankato, MN and Zumbrota, MN before moving to Stewartville, MN in 1977. Her husband was a teacher for the Stewartville School District until retiring this year. The couple moved to Rochester in 1985 where she worked for Olmsted Medical Group, the Rochester School District at Willow Creek Middle School, and the REM Homes. She worked for the Mayo Clinic since 1999 where she was an assistant supervisor in Family Medicine at the Baldwin Building. She enjoyed cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, reading, and music.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter Naomi of New York, NY; a son Matthew of Minneapolis; four sisters, Patty (Tom) Laberda of Champlin, MN; Susan (Dave) Roberson, and Jackie (Kenny) Johnson both of Bloomington; and Pauline (Frank) Randall of Michigan; and five brothers, Lenny (Janet) of Eagan, MN; Michael (Carol) of Katy, TX; Matthew (Sherri) of Austin, TX; and Ted and Jake both of Eagan, MN. Her parents and a sister preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home Rochester Chapel, and one hour before the service at the church on Friday.
