Karen Marie Mehrkens

Karen Marie Mehrkens, 77, of Red Wing, died Saturday, December 31, 2016 at her home. She was born on July 2, 1939, in Red Wing to Orvin and Marcella (Yerka) Erickson. She graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1957 and then from the College of Medical Technology in Minneapolis. On May 29, 1959, she married Lyle Mehrkens. For 30 years she worked as a medical technician at Interstate Medical Clinic in Red Wing. She was also a real estate agent first with Coldwell Bankers and then Lawrence Realty. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Red Wing Investment Club. She enjoyed traveling, boating, her flowers and wintering at Rockport Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Lyle; one daughter Leah (Marv) Grobove of Woodbury; one son Todd (Dianne) Mehrkens of Hager City; three grandchildren, Abby Grobove of Rochester and Katrina and Matthew Mehrkens both of Hager City; two brothers, Roger (Kathy) Erickson and Jerry (Carol) Erickson all of Zumbrota; special cousins, DeAnn Stephens of Midwest City, Okla. and Luana Skibiel of Boise, Idaho, along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2017, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
