Karen Lee DeLuca

Dr. Karen Lee DeLuca, 50, of Red Wing, died Monday, November 25, 2013, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 18, 1963, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to Angelo and Linda (Anderson) DeLuca and graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1982. After two years at Itasca Community College, she attended University of Minnesota, Duluth and then the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, Medical School. She performed her residency in both Minnesota and Illinois and began her medical practice as an OB/GYN in Red Wing, in 1994. Karen met Cindy Wilson in November of 1997 and they were united in marriage on August 17, 2013.
Karen truly enjoyed life and all that it offered. From spending time at the cabin on Staples Lake near Cumberland, Wisconsin, where she could fish and be outdoors, to traveling and vacationing in sunny destinations--she loved it all and if things needed to get a little warmed up, she was there to light the bonfire or launch the fireworks!
An important part of Karen's life was her career and dedication to her patients. Her number one priority was patient care and making a difference in their lives. She loved her job, and as she said, she threw the best birthday parties! She stopped practicing in February due to health reasons. Karen touched numerous lives and will be dearly missed, especially by her feline friends, Thomas, Huey and Jett.
She is survived by her spouse, Cindy Wilson; her father, Angelo DeLuca; sisters, Karen Hall and Joy N'Daou and cousins, Letty Faller, Jennifer Akenson and Karl Herschbach.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda DeLuca and an aunt, Dorothy Herschbach.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013, at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Justin Boeding officiating. Burial will be next week at the Riverside Cemetery in Little Suamico, Wisconsin. A visitation will be from 11am until the time of the service at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to the Goodhue County Humane Society or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
