Karen Brooks

Graveside services at Lands Lutheran Church Cemetery for Karen Brooks will be postponed until Spring 2025. Mrs. Brooks, 80, died Thursday December 19th at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.


Karen Joan Berg was born September 7, 1944 to Orville and Galene Berg. She was a graduate of Zumbrota High School with the Class of 1962. She attended Waldorf Junior College in Forest City, Iowa for a year, and then worked as a civilian for the US Air Force in Minneapolis. She then went to work for the FAA at Northfield, Minnesota. On August 9, 1969 she married Richard Brooks in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Moving to Lake Zurich, Illinois, she worked for the police department. Eventually, she went to school to become a pharmacy technician at Good Shepard Hospital. She returned to Red Wing, Minnesota, where she and her husband bought land for a hobby farm. They raised a few crops such as squash and sunflowers, along with having livestock including Highland cattle and chickens. Working for Fairview/Mayo Hospital in Red Wing, she retired to Zumbrota, taking part in community activities and organizations.


She is survived by her sister Pat Veiseth, sister-in-law Bonnie Rolland, nephews Mike, Richard, and Adam Veiseth, and nieces Natalie Vath and Joey Rolland. Also surviving are 8 great-nieces and nephews, and 3 great-great-nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
