K. Vernon Mattson

June 13, 1920 — July 12, 2014

A celebration of life for K. Vernon Mattson will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel. Philip Elson will officiate. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Rochester. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Vern died on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Golden Living Center East, Rochester surrounded by his family.
Kleo Vernon Mattson was born on June 13, 1920 in Isle, Minnesota the son of Ernest and Cecelia (Lind) Mattson. At the age of 8 Vern became an orphan at the Owatonna State School until the age of 12. He then moved to a farm in Medford where he worked and attended school. Following his education Vern continued to farm in the area and then began to visit his sister in Altura, Minnesota where he met his wife Marie Margaret Eichhorst. Marie and Vern were married on March 1, 1948. They lived in Winona where Vern worked for the railroad and then moved to the Rochester area where Vern worked at Distad's Mobil, Postier and Eggers (Domaille) Buick as well as Moody's Towing and Repair. He greatly enjoyed working with the public and really treasured his family and friends. Vern's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Golden Living Center East for the wonderful care he received over the past three years. Thanks also to Season's Hospice for their visits and compassion.
Vern is survived by his wife of 66 years Marie Mattson of Rochester, his children: Duane (Peggy) Mattson of Federal Way, WA and Mary (Norbert) Degenhardt of Rochester, 4 grandchildren: Chris (Keri) Mattson of Tacoma, WA, Terry Mattson of Seattle, Mindy (Patrick) Kelly of Seattle and David Degenhardt of St. Paul, step-grandchildren: Christine Armstrong and Maria (Scott) Fakler, all of Blaine, MN. He is further survived by 4 great-grandchildren: Grace, Anna and Sage Mattson and Kaylee Kelly, step-great-grandchildren: Taylor, Noah and Nick Armstrong, Ian and Jake Fakler and one sister: Eleanor Boughton of Rochester.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Cliff, Gil and Kenny Mattson.
