June M. Qualy

November 23, 1923 — July 17, 2013

June Marguerite Qualy (Ahlfs) age 89 of Owatonna, formerly of SW Mpls on July 17, 2013 at the Traditions II Care Center of Owatonna. A funeral mass will be held on August 5th at 10:00 AM at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 215 So. 8th St., Minneapolis. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the mass at the church.

June Marguerite Ahlfs was born on November 23, 1923 in Erskine, MN to Dr. Jacob and Mrs. Eleanor Ahlfs (Bettenberg). June spent her first 12 years in Conde, SD before moving with the family to Caledonia, MN where her father became the town's primary physician and surgeon. Upon graduation from Caledonia's Loretto High School she attended the College of Saint Catherine in St. Paul, MN, active in several organizations including choir and League of Women Voters, graduating in June 1945. In the summer of 1945 June entered the nursing service of the Red Cross and served in the Pacific during and after World War II, including Hiroshima and Tokyo, Japan. On June 26, 1948 she was united in marriage to Paul B. Qualy at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN. Paul and June moved to SW Minneapolis living in the same neighborhood for 45 years, raising five children and being active in many civic activities. They moved to Zumbrota in 1996 and to Owatonna in 2012.

In 1970 June began her professional career in addiction and family counseling retiring from St. Mary's Rehabilitation Center (Fairview) in Minneapolis. During her career she received recognition for excellence from educators, colleagues and patients.

June is survived by sons Paul C. (Robin) of Lake City, IA, Peter (Becky) of Indianapolis, IN, Stephen of Shakopee, MN and Phillip (Paula Johnson) of Minneapolis, grandchildren Emily (Derek), Jake, Matt (McKenzie), Andy, Dave, Kevin, Emma, Ahna, Nicole (Matthew), Daniel, Sarah, great grandchild Eleanor. June was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her daughter Ellen Mary, her parents Jacob and Eleanor Ahlfs, brothers Frederick, Jerry and sister Yvette.

The Family would like to thank those individuals in Zumbrota and Owatonna who through their care and kindness did so much for June.
