Julia M. Hoven age 92 of Wanamingo died on Saturday morning, February 27, 2010 at the Kenyon Sunset Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Stordahl Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathleen Lowery officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday, March 1, 2010 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel and on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Julia Mirene Holthe was born on February 5, 1918 in Roscoe Township, Goodhue County, MN to John and Mattie (nee Trelstad) Holthe. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. On February 9, 1935 she married George Hoven on her parent's farm. They made their home in Roscoe Township where they farmed and raised three children, Ilene, Janice and Gale.

Julia was an active life-long member of Stordahl Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, sang in the church choir and worked in the Ladies Aid. Julia worked at a variety of jobs until she was eighty years old.

Nothing was more important to Julia than her family and friends and she loved to cook and bake for them. She enjoyed embroidery, playing cards and visiting.

Julia is survived by her two daughters, Ilene (Donald) Simonson of Stillwater and Janice (James) Hayes of Wausau, WI; one son, Gale Hoven of Wanamingo; six grandchildren, Jason (Tanya) Hoven, Jessica (Paul) Stanton, Elizabeth (Brian) McMenimen, Christopher (Jen) Simonson, John (Cherri) Cravens and Sara Cravens; two step grandchildren, Cherie (Tom) Andrist and Rob (Stacy) Warneke; eighteen great-grandchildren, Lily, Luke and Kiera Hoven, Mayme, Lydia, and George Stanton, Simon, Oscar, Madeline, Olivia, Henry, and Cecelia McMenimen, Loren, Matea and Ethan Simonson, Max, Andy and Julia Cravens and six step great-grandchildren, Isaac and Jacob Andrist and Ben, Eliza, Will and Sam Warneke.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents John and Mattie, her husband, George, her infant son, her grandson, Michael Cravens, her son-in-law, Dr. James Cravens, and two brothers, Obert and Melvin Holthe.
