Judy Lynn Oberg

October 5, 1956 — May 19, 2024

Hager City

Judy Lynn Oberg, 67, of Hager City, died Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems – Red Wing. She was born October 5, 1956, in Helena, Montana to Dale and Joanne (Carlson) Morris. She moved from Helena while she was in the second grade and lived and attended school in Lake City for 4 years before moving to Red Wing. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School, class of ‘75. While in High School she worked at the A&W Root Beer Stand. Judy married Jay Oberg at the Little Brown Church in Iowa; the same place Jay’s parents were married. The couple made their home in Red Wing for a time before building a home in Elderwood Heights in 1979. Ultimately, She and Jay bought and moved the family into Jay’s childhood home. She worked in various places in the Red Wing area, including the Bay City Inn, The Red Wing Port, and the St. James. She also worked for Riviera Cabinets and later Red Wing Cabinetry for many years. She worked at Capital Safety, later 3M, until her retirement in 2022.

She and Jay raised 3 children. She cherished being a mother and grandmother. She would do anything for her kids and seldom had a reason to tell them no. Judy loved nature and all animals. She used to walk through the yard to remove any snakes before anyone was allowed to mow the grass. At the age of 12 in Lake City, Judy ran into a neighbor's burning barn to rescue the cows that were trapped inside. She and her favorite cow, Sugar, made the front page of the Graphic. She especially loved her horses and her dogs.

Judy had a bit of a wild streak and loved anything fast and loud. She enjoyed watching her friends and family compete in demolition derbies. She also loved a good rodeo and she had a soft spot for muscle cars, especially the ’67 Chevelle.

She treasured time spent with her family above all else. She was skilled in her garden and in the kitchen where she could make anything taste delicious – including, somehow, strawberry jam made with tomatoes. Judy will be remembered most for the love that she gave so freely, and her incredibly kind and generous heart.

Judy will be missed by many, including her husband, Jay of Hager City; children, Jolenne (Lenny) Jamison of River Falls, Jay of Hager City, and Josh (Hailey) of Hager City; 8 grandchildren, Violet, Jasper, Forest, and Willow Oberg,  Morgan and Hunter Jamison, and Adrianna and Jay-Jay Oberg; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Reed; siblings, Joni (Richard) Kohn of Red Wing, Jeri (Leonard McCrackin) Morris of Red Wing, Bill Morris of Cape Coral, Florida, Jeanie (Michael) Kinnetz of Stewartville, and Jennifer Morris of St. Louis Park; as well as many nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Virginia and Jiggs Oberg; brothers-in-law, David and Gary; and nephew, Jessie. As well as many beloved pets.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024, at Svea Lutheran Church in Hager City, with Reverend Al Aakre officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing, and one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Trenton Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow the burial at The Outpost in Bay City. In lieu of cut flowers, the family would prefer live plants.
