Judy Halgren

May 12, 1942 — July 9, 2015

Judy Belle Halgren, age 73, formerly of Golden Valley, MN, died accidentally on July 9, 2015 in Cannon Falls, MN . During her life, she gave her beauty, sweetness, honesty, love and creative talents. She graduated from Robbinsdale High School; then, attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and received her Associate of Arts Degree from the General College of the University of Minnesota.
An accomplished pianist, she began composing music at age 12, and during the 1980-90s had her popular-style music published. Yet singing was her favorite pursuit. She sang in musicals during high school, performed with the Morris Park Players in St. Louis Park, MN and vocalized with choirs -most notable the Concert Singers of Cary, North Carolina.
To support her artistic gifts, Judy enjoyed retail sales, worked nine years at the Honeywell, Inc. library and provided medical secretarial services at HealthPartners. Then, she obtained a Certificate in Floral Design from Hennepin Technical College, and worked for local florists. While living in Austin, TX, Judy helped the American Red Cross by working with survivors of Hurricane Katrina. She also volunteered making innovative floral designs for the prestigious J.C. Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, NC. As a newcomer to Red Wing, MN, she joined the Red Wing Arts Association and YMCA.
Judy is preceded in death by her father Ralph C. Halgren and her mother Hattie M. Halgren (nee Fisher). She is survived by her sister Joan Halgren of Red Wing, MN, and Fisher and Halgren cousins.
A celebratory event to honor Judy is being planned for later this year. Memorials are preferred to Futures Without Violence, 100 Montgomery Street, The Presidio, San Francisco, CA 94129.
