Judy (not Judith) Ann Habedank, beloved mother, sister and dear friend, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 at her home. She was born the middle child, to Donald and Mary (Timan) "Sunshine" Sunstrom, on July 1, 1950, in Minneapolis. She grew up in North East Minneapolis and graduated from Thomas Edison High School in 1968 and went on to attend the University of Minnesota where she studied music. She and her girlfriend, Judi, were able to travel extensively throughout Europe prior to her marriage and motherhood. For many years she taught students piano lessons, patiently passing on her talents. There were many weddings, funerals and church services that she played and sang at throughout her lifetime, but her primary occupation was as a secretary at the funeral home, starting first at Johnson Funeral Home and moving to the Bodelson-Mahn Funeral Home where she has currently been at for the past 25 years. For many years she participated in the Mississippi Shuffle, volunteered at church, school and was a former member of the Christian Woman's Club. Judy was an excellent baker and cook and never missed the opportunity to bake for someone's birthday. She loved her animals, especially Crystal Kitty, and was always up for visiting with her friends and neighbors or enjoying a morning out for breakfast with them. Her children brought her greatest joys in life and she cherished her relationships with them.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Laura Habedank of Austin, Texas; her sister, Barbara
(Tom Abel) Nordstrom of Bloomington; a nephew, Brent (Nicole) Nordstrom of Shakopee; a niece Brianne (Josh) Douglas of Mound; great-nephew, Camden; several cousins, dear friends and her funeral home family.
She was preceded in death by 2 infant sisters; her parents; a brother, Donald Sunstrom and her son Brian Habedank in 2010.
Memorial service for Judy will be 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 20, 2015 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19 and for one hour prior to the service. In honor and memory of her son, Brian, memorials are preferred to Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (SAVE).
