Judith Ann Matthews

Judith "Judi" Ann Matthews, 71, of Hager City, died Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems - Red Wing with her family by her side. She was born April 19, 1946 to Marvin and Edna (Peterson) Hennen. She grew up in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1964. In 1965 she married Dennis Matthews at First Lutheran Church. The couple later moved to Hager City where they raised two children. In 1995, Dennis and Judi built a house on Dennis' family farm. Judi was a dedicated worker at the different jobs she held. She worked at Erickson Supermarket, Zibble Insurance for 18 years, the Harbor Bar, and retired from Island Fireworks in August of 2016. Judi loved to read and was an avid bowler, bowling on multiple leagues including a traveling league. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, going to Treasure Island and Las Vegas, and also looked forward to her family's yearly trip to Brainerd. Judi loved to have fun and always enjoyed playful teasing with her grandkids.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis of Hager City; daughter, Jamie (Victor) Peterson of Hager City; grandchildren, Tyler Matthews of Ellsworth, Courtney Matthews of Hudson, Matthew Peterson of Hager City and Kaitlyn Peterson of Hager City; daughter-in-law, Tris Matthews of Ellsworth.
She is preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Matthews and her parents.
Funeral service will be 1p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2018 at English Lutheran Church in Ellsworth with pastor Jeff Smith officiating. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Arrangements with the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
