She was born December 30, 1931, in Ellsworth, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank James and Carla (Nielsen) Bach. She was the third of four children. The family moved many times so she attended different grade schools in the area including Ottoman Corner, Morton Corner, Clayfield, Ellsworth and Red Wing before moving to Maiden Rock. Eventually her parents moved to Red Wing and she decided to stay in Maiden Rock to finish school, living with her Grandfather, Otto Nielsen during this time. After graduating the 8th grade she moved to Red Wing to join her parents and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1950. She married Donald Erickson on March 19, 1951. Joyce worked at Durkee-Atwood for 1 ½ years and then worked at Red Wing Shoe Company for about 5 years until the first of her four children was born. She became a stay-at-home mother for 13 years before returning to work at Red Wing Shoe Company for another 24 years, retiring on December 30, 1993. She loved to knit, crochet, sew and cross stitch. She also enjoyed walking in the woods, camping, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She and Donald enjoyed their daily coffee and walks together. After selling their home of 55 years in August of 2013, the couple moved to St. Brigid's at Hi-Park Assisted Living and eventually moved into St. Brigid's at Hi-Park Care Center, where they shared a room together and celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary in March, 2014. Donald died April 11, 2014.
