Joyce Annabel Carlson

Joyce Annabel Carlson, 93, of Red Wing, died Sunday, September 15, 2019 at her home with her family by her side. She was born September 16, 1925, in Plum City, Wisconsin to John and Anna (Dose) Henn. She graduated from Plum City High School. On November 16, 1945 she married Melvin Carlson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. The couple raised their five children on a small farm on the bluffs of Maiden Rock. For her children, that farm will always be home in their hearts. Joyce helped support her family by working at the grocery store in Maiden Rock and later, in Ellsworth and Red Wing. A member of United Lutheran Church, Joyce made Christ the center of her life and those values are mirrored in the lives of her children. Joyce made all of her children, grandchildren and in-laws feel like they were her favorite and she was a fountain of unconditional love.
Joyce treasured her family and friends and she will be missed by many, including her five children; Sheryl (Vic) Voth of Red Wing, Carol (Ralph) Thompson of Shell Lake, Wisconsin; Christine Joy (David) Staber of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; Kathy (David) Larson of Elizabeth, Colorado and Scott (Lynn) Carlson of Crawfordville, Florida; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several grand-puppies and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin; six siblings and her parents.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2019 at United Lutheran Church with her grandson, Reverend Daniel C. Voth, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Private family burial will be at Maiden Rock Cemetery with her-son-in-law, Reverend Ralph Thompson, officiating.
