PINE ISLAND The funeral for Joyce Bye will be 1 p.m. Friday at Stordahl Lutheran Church with Rev. Kathleen Lowery officiating. Burial will be in the Stordahl Cemetery with Military Honors by the Mazeppa and Wanamingo Veterans Honor Guards.
Mr. Bye, 89, of Pine Island, died Friday (Feb. 12, 2010) at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.
Joyce was born Nov. 14, 1920 on the family farm in Roscoe Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota. He graduated from the 8th. grade at Bringgold Country School. In 1942 he enlisted in the U. S. Navy. On Oct. 21, 1944 he married Delores Deering in South Saint Paul and the couple lived at Norfolk, VA where he was stationed. They returned to South Saint Paul where he worked for the Ford Motor Company. In 1950 they moved to his family's farm near Pine Island, farming until 1990 when they retired. He lived at Evergreen Place in Pine Island, and had lived at Kenyon Sunset Home in Kenyon since Sept. 2009. Mrs. Bye died Aug. 16, 2008. He was a member of Stordahl Lutheran Church and the S.E. Minnesota Tractor Puller's Association. He enjoyed farm auctions, tractor pulling, Mountain Dew, and Reisens.
Survivors include his daughter, Ruth Kraft of Rochester; three sons, Jerome of Viola; David (Lana) and Raymond (Robin), both of Pine Island; nineteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; and his sister Gertrude Glarner of Rochester. A son, Stanley, and two brothers also preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home Mahler Chapel in Pine Island, and an hour before the service Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Stordahl Lutheran Church or Seasons Hospice.
