Joseph “Joe” Herbert Trost passed away at the age of 93 on December 30th, 2023, at Cottagewood Senior Living (The Haven) in Rochester, MN. Joe was born on February 4th, 1930, in St. Paul MN to Walter and Myrtle (Fitch) Trost. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, his siblings Robert, Walter, Marcella (Marce) Sanftner, Lorraine Dourney, Tom, and Myrtle (June) Farrell, his grandson Matthew Amos, and his best friend, Vern Sanftner. He is survived by his daughters Sandy (Bill) Satchell and Kathy (Doug) Amos, his grandchildren Brad (Jenny) Satchell, Betsy (Vince) Benaszeski, Melissa (Travis) Koehler, and William (Shelby) Amos, great grandchildren Tyler (Chelsea) Satchell, Becky (Steven) Lutchen, Austin Benaszeski, Richard (Jordyn) Benaszeski, Martin Satchell, and David Koehler, his 9 great great grandchildren, and his sisters Delores (Bill) Burke, Eileen Chromey, Mary Ann (Frank) Ironi, and brothers Donny (JoDee) Trost, and Jerry Trost.
Joe and Shirley were married on February 10th, 1951. Joe enjoyed riding his motorcycle with Shirley and friends, traveling around the U.S., sailing, fishing in the summer and winter, hunting, talking about the years he was stationed in China when he was in the Marine Corps, and always enjoyed conversations with anyone. He also enjoyed a wide variety of music and artists. He was a boiler engineer at the Xcel Energy (formerly NSP) Highbridge Plant in downtown St. Paul, and the Brainerd State Hospital. When he was a young boy, he helped out at his grandparent’s grocery store at 616 Rondo Ave. in St. Paul. The celebration of his life will be on Saturday, May 11th from 1-4 PM at Joy Lutheran Church: 1435 St. Croix St., Prescott WI 54021. The family would like to thank the staff at The Haven (the memory care unit at Cottagewood), and the nurses with St. Croix Hospice for the care they gave him in his final months. He will be missed.
