Josephine Mae Grabow, 97, of Red Wing, died Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Seminary Home. She was born on March 10, 1916 in Zumbro Falls to John and Ottlia (Walters) Robbins. She completed her schooling at Colvill Elementary in Red Wing and also in Iowa. In July of 1934, Josephine married Charles Karl Grabow in Red Wing. During the war, she worked at Stickle Shoe Factory. When the war ended, she made her living as a mother and housekeeper. She had many other odd jobs at home. Josephine loved to crochet! She crocheted many hats and donated them to social services and was named Crocheter Extraordinaire in the newspaper. During the war, she crocheted many trigger finger mittens for the troops. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting and sewing, having sewn many of her own clothes. She was a longtime member of the Redman Club and First United Methodist Church.
Josephine is survived by her two children, Charles "Leon" (Diane) Grabow and Linda Eckstrom, both of Red Wing; five grandchildren, Terry (Connie) Grabow, Tom (Julie) Grabow, Dawn (Chris) Hadler, Donna (Jeff) Muller, and Dana (Julie) Eckstrom; eight great-grandchildren, Sari Raway, Jordan Grabow, Kelby Hadler, Rhiannon Hadler, Alexis Muller, Kali Muller, Ryan Eckstrom, and Erika Eckstrom; one great-great-grandchild on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; two infant children, Betty and Joseph; her parents; and three siblings, Ben Robbins, Jenny Rich, and Lloyd Robbins.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Red Wing with Reverend Greg Strunk officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the church. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
