Joseph Verkinderen age 61 of Lake City died October 15, 2006, at his home. Joe was born December 30, 1944, in East Moline, IL to Lucien & Madeleine (Van Damme) Verkinderen. Joe grew up on the family farm in the Minneota area. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1962. Joe married Jean Fischer on February 3, 1962, in Cottonwood, MN at St. Mary?s Catholic Church. They lived in Mankato where he attended Mankato State from 1962 to 1965. He graduated with a BS in mathematics and physics. They moved to St. Paul where he worked for 3M. He retired as a SR. Research Physicist in 1998. They moved to Lake City in 2001. He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Lake City, Lake City Lions Club, where he was Vic President, Lake Pepin Golf Course, 3M Club, Woodworking Club and Meals on Wheels. Joe is survived by his wife, four daughters, Deborah (Terry) Miller of Cambridge, Angela (Tony) Nixon of Rosemount, Melissa (Brian) Ollila of Maplewood, Teresa (Dale) Schmitz of Cottage Grove; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; two brothers Richard (Renee) of Mankato, Robert (Rhonda) of Marshall; one sister Doreen (Randy) Grussing of Dawson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Maurice. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Lake City, Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Father James Russell officiating.
