Joseph "Bay" Francis Metzler, age 89 of Red Wing died on Friday April 10, 2009 at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park. Bay was born on August 7, 1919 in Red Wing to Daniel and Mathilda (Staiger) Metzler. Bay grew up in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1927. He worked at Claydon Pharmacy for four years and served in the United States Army 185th Infantry Company H during World War II. He married Carmen Anderson on September 23, 1946. Bay worked at Metzler Plumbing and Heating with his brother Daniel and then at the Training School for over 20 years as a plumber. Bay enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Burnson Lillyblad #1218 VFW, the American Legion Leo C. Peterson Post #54, the Saint Joseph Church Choir, and was a volunteer firefighter for 26 years.
Bay is survived by his wife Carmen; daughters Suzanne (Tom) Enebak and Monica (Ed) Cook; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Helen Lillyblad and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Florence, Daniel, Gertrude, Irene, Josephine, and Margaret.
Mass of Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 17 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Red Wing with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
