Joseph Dale Grothe

Joseph D. Grothe, age 64 of Lake City passed away December 15, 2013 at Mayo Health System Lake City Hospital after a brief illness.
Joseph was born April 1, 1949 in Rochester, MN to Joseph & Mildred (Dale) Grothe. He grew up on the family farm in the Wanamingo area and graduated from Wanamingo High School. He farmed for a while and then went to work at IBM in Rochester. He married Lucille Buck April 21, 1979 at the Dale Lutheran Church in Kenyon. After they were married they lived in Wanamingo until 1994 when they moved to Durham, NC. He continued working at IBM while they lived in Durham. In 1999 they moved to Lake City. Joseph retired from IBM in 2010 after thirty years of service. After he retired he went to work for Red Wing Shoe in their retail store for 3 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Lake City. Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and playing softball. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his wife, Lucille, a son, Jonathan (Stephanie) Grothe of Lake City; three step-sons, Michael Jackson of Wanamingo, Mark Jackson (Aime Cavalier) of St. Paul, Matthew (Lucretia)Jackson of Wanamingo; 11 grandchildren, Jenna, Lincoln, Scott, Hunter, Samantha, Ashley, Austin, Jesse, Matthew, Kayleigh, and Kassandra; one great granddaughter, Jazlyn; three sisters, Betty Jo Grothe of Zumbrota, Luanna "Tudy" (Charles) Olson of Wanamingo, Janet (Brad) Munson of Cannon Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Greg Grothe.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with the Rev. Darren Paulson officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church.
