Jon R. Heath, age 56, of Cottage Grove, and formerly of Red Wing, passed away on January 16, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Jon was born on June 25, 1960, in Red Wing, to Alfred and Shirley Heath. He grew up in the Ellsworth/Hager City area and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1978. When he was younger, Jon liked helping his dad with appliance repairs. Jon worked for many years at Red Wing Shoe Company and also taught computer classes at the Red Wing Technical College.
He married Joan Schug on September 14, 2014 and they were soul mates. They loved to create laughter and memories together and were always looking for "New Adventures". Jon enjoyed traveling, riding motorcycle, visiting lighthouses, collecting coins, playing "Zilch", and spending time with family. One of Jon's greatest joys was being a Grandpa and a "Papa" to the grandchildren. He was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and son.
Jon is survived by his wife, Joan of Cottage Grove; sons Chris of Red Wing and Nicolas of Illinois; step-daughters, Denise (Brandon) Crawford, Dana Schone, and Laura Schone all of Glenwood City, Wisc.; grandchildren Hannah, Ryan, Kyra, Ellianna, Preston, Dalton, Tayler, Austin, Faith and Destiny; mother Shirley Heath of Red Wing; and siblings Ruth Ann(Curt Richardson) Johnson, Mike Heath, Phyllis Sullivan, Gene (Becky) Heath; in-laws Jim (Cheri) Schug, Roger (Debbie) Schug, Marge (Gary) Schone, Marlene (Kent) Mathison, Tom Schug, Bernie (Nita) Schug, and Jane (Jeff) Leaf; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Alfred; niece Brittany Heath; and grandson, Jack Crawford.
A Celebration of Jon's Life will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
