Joleen Ruth Jensen, 76, of Red Wing, died on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the Lake City Nursing Home. She was born on October 2, 1934, in Estherville, Iowa to J. Russell and Helen (Keyser) Eike. She graduated from Estherville High School in 1952 and then attended Estherville Junior College. For a few years she worked for the Emmett County Bank in Estherville. On January 12, 1956 she married Donald B. Jensen in Estherville. They lived in Newport News, Virginia, while Don was serving in the US Army. After his discharge they moved to Elgin, Ill and then lived in Albert Lea, Minn., Sioux City, Iowa, Willmar, Minn., moving to Red Wing in 1967. Don and Joleen owned and operated Jensen Jewelers until November 1994 when they retired and sold the business. She was a member of First Covenant Church and after retirement volunteered for the St. John's Hospital Auxillary as a pink lady. She enjoyed the cabin on Bone Lake near Milltown, Wis, with family and friends, boating on the river and more recently watercolor painting. Her and Don traveled all the fifty states and most recently to Alaska last August. For the past ten years they have wintered at Paradise Park in Sun City, Arizona. Her family remembers how important her faith was to her; participating in bible studies, being active in her church and Christian Women Club. She will be remembered for all her love she gave her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Don of 55 years; three children, Debra (Robert) Wing of Savage, Douglas of Mason City, Iowa and Kathleen McKee of St. Cloud; nine grandchildren, Joseph (Karen) Wing, Jacleen Wing, Jacob Jensen, Russell (Kelsey) Jensen, Weston Jensen and Sarah, Amanda, Scott and Laura McKee; one great grandson, Trenton Jensen and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, J. Russell, Jr. and Jack.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2011 at First Covenant Church with Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Lake City. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or Fairview Red Wing Hospice.
