John Maynard Wright, 70 of Red Wing, died Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Fairview University in Minneapolis. He was born May 28, 1943 in Jacksonville Township, Wabasha County, MN to Marlyn J. and Glenda (Schumann) Wright. John grew up on a farm in Jacksonville and attended country school there and eventually attended school in Wabasha. John worked at S.B.Foot Tannery after high school. He married Lavarian "Tootie" Robbins on February 22, 1964 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. John met "Tootie" in 1959 when she was 16, at a roller-skating event. He worked the majority of his life as an iron worker for Meyer Industries. He worked on several projects over his career, including installing freeway light poles, working on the parking lot at the Downtown Plaza in Red Wing and installing lights at the Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, NY. During his later years, he drove charter bus for Lee Line where he was a requested driver. He drove for over 40 years and loved to "get out and go" on trips.
John had a hobby farm and acreage where he raised Arabian horses. He loved fishing and camping and playing cards, especially euchre. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Red Wing, Sherriff's Posse and the Hay Creek Valley Saddle Club.
John is survived by his wife, Lavarian "Tootie" Wright; two children, Kimberly Ann (Frederick) Brunner of Elmwood, WI, and Kurtis (Della) Wright of Chantilly, VA ; grandchildren, Nicholas, Makenzie and Taylor; two brothers, Arvid and Lyle Wright, one sister; Linda Haglund. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lloyd Wright.
Funeral service will be at 11 am, Friday, June 28, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church Red Wing, with Rev. Loren Lucht officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
