OBITUARY: John W. Shaw Van
Memorial services for John W. Shaw Van will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the Charter House in Rochester, MN. Chaplain Mary Mason will officiate. Dr. Kenneth Tjeerdsma will provide the music. Scattering of his cremains will be in the Calvary Episcopal Church Columbarium.
John Warner Shaw Van, age 84, of Rochester, died on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Charter House. He was born on April 5, 1923 in Denison, IA to John and Grace (Warner) Shaw Van. John served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 � 1946. During this time, he received a meteorology degree from the University of Chicago. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Ames, IA, where he received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University.
He worked for IBM as an electrical engineer, retiring as a senior engineer after 36 years of service and holds their Outstanding Contribution Award.
John is survived by his wife, Sannas, of Rochester, MN; his daughter, Martha (Gilbert) McArthur, of Williamsburg, VA; his son, John (Mary) Shaw Van, of Piney Flats, TN; his daughter, Melissa (Kenneth) Tjeerdsma, of Sioux City, IA; his daughter, Nancy (Brad) Kruse, of Denver, CO; seven grandchildren: Sarah Grace McArthur, John Tjeerdsma, Kenneth Tjeerdsma, Elizabeth Jane Tjeerdsma, William Tjeerdsma, Nicholas Kruse and Patrick Kruse; one sister, Marcella Soth, of West Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant daughter, Ellen.
