John D. Stucky

A funeral mass for John D. "Bud" Stucky will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Pine Island. The Reverend Timothy Dolan will officiate. Burial, with military honors provided by the American Legion of Pine Island, will follow at the Pine Island Cemetery. Mr. Stucky, 87, a lifelong Pine Island resident, died Saturday May 16, 2009 at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island.

John Delbert Stucky was born December 17, 1921 in Pine Island, the son of John F. and Rose (Meek) Stucky. A graduate of Pine Island High School in 1940, he worked at George Nolan's Hardware following graduation. He then served in the US Navy from 1942 until 1945, and in the Naval Air Reserve from 1947 to 1948, and developed a special love of flying. Returning to Pine Island, Mr. Stucky owned and operated a grocery store in Eyota, and later was a farmer and worked in construction. He was an avid baseball player. He married Lucille Durst on April 3, 1948 in Pine Island. She preceded him in death in 1995. On March 24, 1997 he married his second wife, Maria. Mr. Stucky was a member of Saint Michael's Catholic Church and the American Legion in Pine Island.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Stucky of Pine Island; four daughters, Suzanne (Steve) Lovhaug of Marion, Iowa, Annette Just of Owatonna, Phyllis (Morris) Schutz of Stewartville, and LeaAnn Stucky of Pine Island; a son, Chris (Becky) Stucky of Pine Island; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elrose Schade of Lake City, Lucille 'Tealey' (Robert) Baumgartner of Louisville, Colorado, and Mary Thorsen of New Hope; and two brothers, Anton 'Tony' (Dorothy) Stucky of Bloomington, and Wayne (Kate Finley) Stucky of Rochester.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers, and two sisters.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Mahler Chapel in Pine Island. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
