John R. Schade

John Robert Schade, 86, of Hager City, Wisconsin, died Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Deer Crest Senior Living in Red Wing. He was born June 4, 1937, in Dodge, Wisconsin, to Joe and Verna (Brom) Schade.  He graduated from Winona High School and began working for the Red Wing Shoe Company until he enlisted in the US Army in 1960, serving until 1962.  After he was honorably discharged, he returned to the RW Shoe Company, where he worked for 38 years upon his retirement in 1993.  In his retirement, he worked part-time as a night watchman at the RW Shoe Company.  John married Sandra Bodelson on September 5, 1992.  Together they enjoyed traveling and were a part of a card club.  John always enjoyed watching football and tending to his garden.

He is survived by Sandra’s children, Laurie (Warner) Andrews of Hager City, Bob Bodelson of Baldwin, WI, Julie (Jim) Brunkhorst of Red Wing and Sharon Shidler of Altamonte Springs, FL; grandchildren, Alice (Casey) Shockman, Alex (Alison) Andrews, Lindsey (Tommy) Bodelson, Alayna (Jake) Hammer, Demi Brunkhorst, Michael (Kylie) Brunkhorst, Elizabeth Shidler and Abigail Shidler; nephew, Gene Heineman of Bay City, nieces, Cindy Heineman of Osseo, WI and Linda Kolve of Bay City and several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra in 2020; step-children, Faith and John Bodelson and recently, his sister, Joan Heineman.

A memorial service for both John and his sister, Joan, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2023 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with a visitation one hour prior.  Burial for John, with military honors by Leo C. Peterson #54, will be held at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.   Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
