John R. Anderson age 79 of Lake City, MN, passed away on Wednesday January 7, 2009 at St. Anne's Health Care Center in Winona, MN.
He was born to Albert and Helen (Olson) Anderson on February 1, 1929 in Lake City, MN. He was the youngest of six children.
John grew up in Lake City, MN and attended elementary school and graduated from Lake City High School in 1947. He enlisted in the Army in 1951 and served as an ammunition foreman in Alaska until his discharge in 1953. He worked for Carlson Painting and Decorating in Lake City for many years as a painter until his retirement. In his later years he got around by bicycle and collected a great many aluminum cans from around the city and also enjoyed collecting puzzles.
Survived by brother Clarence Anderson of Vallejo, CA; four nieces and two nephews and a special thanks to Nancy Anderson for caring for John for the past five years. He was preceded by, 3 sisters, infant sister Florence, Ruth Aanerud and Kathryne Ethen, and a brother Harry.
Funeral Services will be at Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Darren Paulson officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City. Friends may call one hour before the service at the Funeral home. Military Rites will be performed by Lake City VFW Post 8729 and American Legion Post 110.
