John Richard Rink

September 9, 1928 — October 14, 2015

John Richard Rink was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 9, 1928. He was the son of Kuno and Nora (Jacobson) Rink. At the age of one his father died and he was adopted two years later by his loving step-father Oscar Eisenhauer. He graduated from Central High School in St. Paul and from the University of Minnesota with a BS in Metallurgical Engineering. He served in the US Army for two years at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. He is preceded in death by his parents, step-father, brother Kuno and step-brother Henri.
John married "the light of my life" Lois Lind on October 18, 1952. Together they raised three sons, Jack (Roxana) Pueblo, CO; Rob (Luz) Rochester, MN; and Karl (Linda) Princeton, ID. They also have four grandchildren, Laura, Eric, Colleen, Kimberly and one great-granddaughter Cameryn.
Early on, John was employed in metals industry and the family moved several times before settling in Rochester in 1966. At that point, John pursued a successful career with IBM as a respected manager in development of integrated circuits. He always showed a passion for science and engineering and was quietly proud that his sons and several grandchildren felt the same - although Lois would jokingly call this a genetic flaw. The couple made wonderful, life-long friends wherever they lived but there is no question that Rochester was always their true home.
John was known as a man who demonstrated his values and character by the way he lived. He was a devoted husband and father who liked nothing better than spending time with his family. Some of the best times were spent at the family's treasured cabin "up north" where they gathered whenever possible. John was an accomplished woodcarver, painter, avid fisherman and passed the love of the outdoors to his sons.
In addition, John and Lois enjoyed travel and explored much of the US plus trips to Europe. They both treasured their heritage and their good-natured bantering about the relative flaws of Norwegians (John) and Swedes (Lois) was never resolved.

John would want to be remembered as a man who loved God, his wife and his family. The principles that he demonstrated everyday will forever shape the lives of his family and friends. In this manner, he will always be a quiet, steady source of dignity and values to those he loved and those who loved him.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2124 Viola Rd NE. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Riverbend and Mayo Hospice for their loving and compassionate care to John.
