John M. Redmond

John M Redmond, 71, passed away at his home in Lake City on December 5, 2021.

John was born to William & Kathryn (Wise) Redmond on August 15, 1950. He grew up in Lake City and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1969. He then attended RCTC in Rochester. Out of college John first worked at Meyer Industry until 1985. From there he worked as a salesman for Kennedy Valve and then on to DeZUIRK which brought the family to Sauk Rapids, MN. The stay was short lived as he hired as the Vice President of Lemna in Egan MN in 1995 and a move back to Lake City shortly after. Never one to sit still at his desk, the road came calling again and he took the Reginal Sales Manager job at Environment One. By 2003 he’d tired of having a boss and set out to start his own business. By 2004 he started Redmond Environmental which produced grinder pumps and parts for pressure sewer systems. His success led him too purchasing Wise Ace Hardware from his cousin Pat in 2007. His sons Tom and Sean joined him soon after and opened new hardware stores in Stewartville and LaCrescent. Never one to want to cook his own meals he opened US Gas in 2011 just so he had lunch ready for him every day. His hobby was his work and he loved it.

John was a member of St. Mary’s of The Lake Catholic Church.

John is survived by his sons, Tom (Lexi) of Lake City,  Sean (Allie) of Lake City; grandson, Finn; 2 brothers, Jim of Houston TX., Joe (Kym) of Dallas TX.; sister, Barbara (Jack) Reese of Greenville, SC. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Mass will be on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 11 am at St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church. Father Matt Fasnacht will be officiating.
