John H. Quast age 93, of Zumbrota died on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Zumbrota Health Services. The funeral service will be on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Eric Westlake officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
John Henry Quast was born on December 10, 1917 on the family farm in Whitewillow (NW1/4 Sec. 5) in Zumbrota Township, Goodhue County, MN to John and Alvina (nee Pirius) Quast. He was the seventh of nine children. He attended Whitewillow School #110 through the eighth grade. John started working with his family on the farm. On October 13, 1956 he married Audrey Margaret Elliott in Preston, MN. They made their home on the Quast family farm until 1975 when John retired and they moved into Zumbrota.
John enjoyed fishing, furniture refinishing, animals, Chevy coupes, politics and lawn mowing.
John is survived by his wife, Audrey; two daughters, Kathryn (Obert Jr.) Flikke of Bombay, MN and Patricia (Mark Jenkins) Quast-French of Vineyard Haven, MA; two grandsons, Asa French and Truman French; one granddaughter, Clara Quast Flikke and his cat "Lost".
John was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Ann Quast; his parents; seven sisters, Clara Schultz, Lila Quast, Irene Quast, Martha Johnson, Gertrude Nodland, Ramona Schenach and Ruth Quast; one brother, Walter Quast and his beloved pets Butch, Rusty and Scuddles.
Memorials are preferred to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
Casketbearers are Christian Kelm, Truman French, John Schumann, Steve Oelkers, Brian Biwer and Andre Wrolstad-Flikke.
Honorary bearers are Asa French and Clara Quast Flikke.
Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
