John Lavern Marking 72 of Lake City passed away April 1st, 2023 at home with family
and beloved dog Susie, at his side.
He was born September 9, 1950 in Lake City, MN to Lavern and Katherine “Kate”
(Eversman) Marking. He married Dinah (Duden) Marking October 24, 1970 in Lake City
MN, and raised a son Jay. He started his career as a laborer doing road work in Theilman, moved on to Bouquet's Super Valu, then Tackmann Sheet Metal, worked a towboat for Swab Towing, construction work with multiple companies and finally working at Valley Craft for 33 years until his retirement in 2022. He was also a member of the Lake City Ambulance,
Lake City Police Department as a reserve officer then part-time officer, Lake City Marina
Security, and did maintenance work at Great River Home. John enjoyed helping people with odd jobs such as construction and handyman jobs. He also loved hunting, and his biggest prize from hunting was a 100 lb. Black Bear.
John is survived by his wife Dinah, son Jay (Eric) of Rochester, Brothers/Sisters Joanne (Denny) Wohlferd, of St. Charles, Marlene (Louie) Boehmke, of Rushford, Elaine (Dan) Meincke, of Lake City, Roger "Fud" (Debbie) Marking, of Lake City, Gerard "King" (Rhonda) Marking, of Lake City, Eileen (Kent) Christensen, of Rushford, Brian (Sheryl)
Marking, of Lake City, and his dog, Susie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lavern and Kate Marking, Father In-law Alvin
and Mother In-law Gladys Duden.
A celebration of life for John will be held on June 24, 2023 from 2pm to 5pm at the Sportsman's Club in Lake City. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home. On-Line Condolences may be placed at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
