John Joseph Jansen, 88, of Red Wing, died Sunday, January 10, 2016 at his home. He was born August 11, 1927 to George and Mary (Ruether) Jansen in Salem Township, Wis. He attended Herbert school and served in WWII in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946. He married Rosemary Miller on August 29, 1951 at Clayfield Catholic Church. John worked for over 60 years as a house painter in Red Wing. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed serving at their chicken bar-b-ques for 50 years. He was also a member of the Leo C. Person American Legion, Post 54 and appreciated the kindness and support of the local post. John enjoyed fishing, woodworking and gardening and his family enjoyed it when he would play the accordion.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; son, Thomas (Melody) Jansen of Red Wing; daughter, Kathy (Brad) Anderson of Cannon Falls; four grandchildren, Ariana (Jason) Wright, Travis Anderson, Cory and Christopher Keeler; and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial with military honors will be at Clayfield Catholic Cemetery in Ellsworth. Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association or the Leo C. Peterson American Legion, Post 54.
