John Frank Irvin, Jr., 83, Red Wing, died Friday, May 6, 2011, at his residence. He was born April 8, 1928 in Minneapolis, the son of John and Rosina (Miller) Irvin, Sr. The family moved to Iowa, Wisconsin and finally to Red Wing where he attended Red Wing Central High School. He served in the U. S. Army from 1947 - 1949. He married Ione L. Erie on June 2, 1950 at United Lutheran Church. He worked at Red Wign Shoe for 41 ½ years then worked as a security guard there on week-ends for 12 years. He was a member of United Lutheran Church and he enjoyed fishing, camping, downhill skiing and motorcycling, experiencing his last ride at age 80.
Survivors include his wife, Ione of Red Wing; four children: Wayne (Gail), Bruce (Pamela) and Debbie (Bruce) Reuter, all of Red Wing and Jackie (Mike) Hayes of Virginia Beach, VA; eight grandchildren: Jeana, Jessica & Angela, Shawn, Ryan & Chad, Katie & Steven; six great-grandchildren: Nora, Cole, Elisa, Natalie, Giatta and Paige; one sister, Carol (Charlie) Hegseth of Red Wing. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Robert, Jim and Al; and two sisters: Trudy and Myrt.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 - 7 p. m. Monday, May 9, 2011 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the church.
