John Joseph Harlander, 65, of Brooklyn Park, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 1, 2023, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He was born on August 22, 1957, in Robbinsdale to Eugene and Janice (Klune) Harlander. He graduated from Osseo High School in 1975, lettering in baseball, football and hockey, but his passion was playing goalie. After high school he played a few years of junior hockey before furthering his education at Concordia College in Moorhead. He continued to play hockey during his college years, graduating in 1982, with a degree in accounting and minor in law enforcement.
He began his career as an accountant working in a small public accounting firm where he met his future wife, Sue Goudy. They were united in marriage on August 4, 1984. They made their home in Brooklyn Park where they raised two beautiful daughters, Jessica and Kaitlyn. John held a few accounting jobs rising to CFO at Precise Products where he worked for a number of years and then CFO/COO for FMH for the past 15 years.
John was a past member of Ducks Unlimited and the Minnesota ESOP Association. In addition to hockey, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, target shooting, riding motorcycle and traveling. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, taking in his grandchildren’s activities and hanging out with his amazing friends.
Over the past several years, they have enjoyed using their motorhome- summers at a campground near Pequot Lakes, MN and winter in Fort Myers, Florida.
John is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Susan; two daughters, Jessica Harlander and Kaitlyn (Andrew) Anderson; four grandchildren, Landon, Audrey, Jackson and Kaylie; two sisters, Christe (Steven) Singleton and Cathy Harlander; one brother, David (Lisa) Harlander; nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Ruth Goudy and brother and sister-in- laws, Gregg (Debra) Goudy and Barbara (Mark) Tesdall. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Robert Goudy.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2023, at First Covenant Church, 2302 Twin Bluff Rd., Red Wing with Pastor Jim Murphy officiating. The service will be live stream on the following link https://youtube.com/live/35nubhaA5U8 or on the church's website at www.redwingfirstcov.org . Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Hope 4 Youth ( www.hope4youthmn.org ) Arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
