John Robert Groen

The funeral for John "Jack" Groen will be held Monday July 7th at 11:00 AM at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester. The Reverend Jason Bryan-Wegner will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Groen, 75, of Rochester, died Wednesday July 2, 2014 at his home in Rochester.
John Robert Groen was born November 1, 1938 in Parkston, South Dakota, the son of Orrin and Viola Groen. Raised in Parkston, he was a graduate of Parkston High School with the Class of 1957. He served six years in the National Guard, and enrolled at South Dakota State University in Brookings, from which he earned a bachelor's degree. In 1965 he married Glenda Ellingson in Rochester. Mr. Groen worked more than 20 years at Johnson Printing. While his kids were growing up he enjoyed attending their sporting events, and he was a Twins and Vikings fan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Following retirement he pursued investing in the stock market. He was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Tina) Groen of Shakopee, Jason (Greg Page) Groen of Rochester, and Jed (Kaylan) Groen of Rochester; a grandson, Nathaniel Groen; and two brothers, Jerry Groen of Parkston, South Dakota, and Joe (Janet) Groen of Randolph, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Groen, in 2004.
The visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel, continuing one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
If so desired, memorials may be directed to Zumbro Lutheran Church or Arthritis research at Mayo Clinic.
