John M. Edstrom

John Mark Edstrom, 61, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born Nov 6, 1952, in Warroad, Minnesota, near Lake of the Woods, to Rev. Paul and Ruth (Sundberg) Edstrom. He first lived in Tanzania just before his second birthday in 1954. After living in Iowa and Minnesota from 1959 - 1969, John moved back to Africa with his family, where they were missionaries. He graduated from Rift Valley Academy in Kijabe, Kenya, in 1970, and returned to Minnesota after graduation. He lived in Western Minnesota where he attended a vocational school. He later moved to Lake City/ Red Wing area. On May 16, 1992, he married Sarah Wold. For 35 years he had been employed at Federal Mogul in Lake City. John kept himself busy and enjoyed doing things himself-from tinkering in his shed to fixing cars and working on the house, he was very hands-on and mechanical. He was a very caring and loving father, and nothing gave him more pleasure than spending time with his children, whether it was helping them in Boy and Girl Scouts when they were little or watching them participate in their sporting events when they were older. He also enjoyed being outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah and children, Hannah and Miles all of Red Wing; his parents, Paul and Ruth Edstrom of Eagan; sisters, Char (Roger) Siebenaler of Plainview, Mary (Andrew) Robitschek and Faith Frey both of North Carolina; a brother, Peter of Eagan; nieces and nephews: Sam, Matthew, Daniel, Christopher and Jessica and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his sister Therese, and grandparents, Hulda and
Selim Sundberg, and Rev. Arthur and Ellen Edstrom.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Memorials are prefered to the Amyloidosis Foundation or St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
