John David Borgschatz, 79, died from Parkinson's complications at Saint Mary's Hospital Saturday, December 28th, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born June 1st, 1934 to William and Emma Borgschatz and raised on the family farm in rural Goodhue County. He graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1952. He began working at IBM in 1958 and was drafted in the Army that same year. Upon return he resumed his employment and married Janice Rud on June 25th, 1960. He bought a farm in rural Byron in 1966 where he raised his family. He retired from IBM and farming in 1986. He was a member of the Byron American Legion and the Byron Community.
In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, attending his grandchildren's school and athletic events. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan and enjoyed telling a story or a joke to his friends to bring a smile to their faces.
John is survived by his daughter Lori (Wayne) Sonnier, of Mazeppa, Jim (Mary) Borgschatz of Lake City and Cathy Borgschatz of Hammond, WI, four grandson's, four great-grand daughters and two great-grand son's, one sister, Anita (Earl) Enevold of Radcliff, KY, and a special friend, Sharon Ness, of Kasson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Janice Borgschatz in 2005, son Lon Borgschatz in 2012, parents William and Emma Borgschatz and four brothers and one sister.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 3rd at 11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church in Byron with Rev. Steve Rheingans officiating. Burial will be in East St. Olaf Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Rochester Chapel. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church.
