John "A.J." Anton Bodelson, age 39, of Red Wing, died Monday, March 3, 2008, at his sister's home in Red Wing. He was born on November 20, 1968, in Red Wing, to Weldon and Sandra (Rundquist) Bodelson. He was a 1987 graduate of Red Wing Central High School. A lifelong resident of Red Wing, he was employed at Randy's Restaurant, Hardees and J.C. Penney's. He participated in Red Wing Special Olympics and in 1987, he participated in the International Special Olympics at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where he received gold and silver medals. He enjoyed collecting Star Wars memorabilia, playing games and watching movies. He was a member of United Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his mother, Sandra (John) Schade of Hager City; five siblings, Faith Bodelson of Red Wing, Laurie (Warner) Andrews of Hager City, Robert Bodelson of Hammond, Wisconsin, Julie (James) Brunkhorst of Red Wing, Sharon Bodelson Shidler of Rochester; six nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Weldon; maternal and paternal grandparents and one brother, Steven.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Spring Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the time of services Thursday at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or Special Olympics.
