John Gaylord Bloom, 91 of Red Wing, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the Seminary Home. He was born September 30, 1921 in Red Wing, the son of Emil and Matilda (Holmquist) Bloom. John grew up on the family farm in Welch. On January 11, 1960, at the age of 38, John married Syvilla (Nelson) Miller. He farmed in Welch and then John, Syvilla and family moved to the Siewert farm in Featherstone Township. John and the boys farmed the 160 acre farm. John also worked for 22 years at the S.B. Foot Tanning Company, sorting hides. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling and playing softball in his early years, traveling with his family, and he had a love of horses.
John is survived by his wife, Syvilla; children, Wayne (Jean) Miller, Daniel Miller, William (Gayle) Miller, Mark Bloom, and Bruce Bloom, all of Red Wing, and Linda (Jerry) Zemke of Goodhue; grandchildren, Brady (Rachel), Kerby, Cody, Jordan, and Alyssa; one great granddaughter, Vanessa; one sister, Irene Smith; and by many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bernice Ready; and infant granddaughter, Jessica.
Funeral will be 2 p.m., Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Reverend Bob Iverson officiating.
