John Carl Bang, 91, of Hager City, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Atrium Post Acute Care in Ellsworth where he resided the past few days. He was born on April 6, 1925, in Red Wing, Minnesota to Loren and Edla (Carlson) Bang. His mother passed away at a young age. They moved to Hager City when his father bought a farm, where he and his two brothers were raised by Aunt Lou, and they farmed with his father.
He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1943. On November 2 1957 he married Gladys Scharpen and together they bought and ran a dairy farm. John was known for his kindness and willingness to help his brothers and neighbors whenever needed. After the cows were sold he and his brothers cut and sold wood together for many years. The brothers very close. They all passed away within one year, one month and one day from each other. John loved working hard and visiting his neighbors and brothers, even in the cold of winter on his gator. He remained on the farm up until a few days before his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys; two brothers, Elmer and Donald; three sisters-in-law, Lilly Scharpen, Erna Sullivan and Florence Lund and three brothers-in-law, Harry Scharpen, Clarence Scharpen and Leslie Scharpen. He is survived by several nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Joyce Scharpen and June Bang. He will be dearly missed.
