Joanna Smith

September 9, 2025 — January 21, 2012

Joanna "Jo" Smith, 86, died on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at her home in Red Wing. She was born September 9, 1925 in Zumbrota, the daughter of Theodore and Ingeborg (Lund) Olson. She married Eugene Smith on December 21, 1946 and raised three children. Jo was a registered nurse in pediatrics at the Interstate Medical Center in Red Wing for many years. She was a member of United Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Jo had a passion for cooking and also had a green thumb in her garden. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed needlework, knitting, and crocheting. She enjoyed playing bridge with many different groups and especially enjoyed attending concerts, musicals, and plays. She also enjoyed her neighbors and loved caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren as often as she could. Jo was known for her soft, cozy jammies she made for family and friends.

The importance of family and friends was the message Joanna left her family. She leaves behind her three children, Judy Ann (Dana) Smith of Oakton, VA, Doug (Cyndi) Smith of Red Wing, MN and Carol (Sam) Cameron of Hudson, WI; six grandchildren, Patrick, Kristin, Anna, Jesse, Katie, and Alex; four great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Gannon, Parker and August; one brother, Rolland Olson of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene (Gene) and her brother, Melroy.

A private family service will be held at a later date with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Memorials preferred to the Kiwanis Flower Basket Fund.
